I went to Walmart today and was shocked to see some .223 ammo on the shelf.  I walk past the cabinet every time I go in there but its usually just a waste of time.  Today was different.  There wasn’t a lot of ammo on the shelf, but there was a bunch of Russian TulAmmo.

Some people might not like the stuff, especially since its steel cased, but if you’ve been following my blog for a while then you know I love the stuff.  Its cheap, reliable, and very accurate for $0.25 a round (as of last year).  So when I saw 20 boxes of .223 on the shelf, I bought my limit of 3.  Might go back tomorrow as well.

The price has gone up, I’m sure you had guessed that.  But I think I can swing an extra $0.30 a box.  That extra 1.5 pennies a round certainly isn’t going to bother me at all.

And now you’re saying, “sure, they had some .223, but tomorrow there will be none left”.  To that I say, 20 boxes isn’t a lot, but its far more than we’ve seen in the past.  And in addition to .223, TulAmmo was also available in .40 S&W and .45ACP.  Each of those sections were full as well.  There were virtually no other manufacturers present anywhere else on the shelves.

This could mean two things:

  1. TulAmmo has upped production or began exporting more to match the increased demand.
  2. Walmart finally received an order they placed back in December before the Great Ammo Drought of 2013 went into affect.

The reason I don’t think this is a back-ordered shipment is because my local Walmart has told me they never stopped ordering.  They continued ordering and everything they put on the shelves sold the same day.  While I never saw that with my own two eyes, I can’t call them liars either.  Local rumors spoke of lines in sporting goods every morning when the shipments were scheduled to be put on the shelf.  Most of the ammo never even made it behind the glass.

But this is all just speculation.  I’m no expert on business or firearms and I don’t claim to be.  I can only make statements based on what I see and experience first hand.

Regardless, this is a positive thing.  Local shops are still struggling to get ammo on the shelves, but cheap ammo is unheard of.  Everything I have found locally has been high dollar brass stuff, and for me that’s just not appealing.  Is this a sign that cheap (inexpensive) ammo is once again a possibility?  I don’t know.  All I know is I now have 60 more rounds of my favorite brand of rifle ammo.

Life has been pretty crazy lately.  Work is twice as busy as it was the past few weeks and its all I can do to stay on top of my work throughout the day.  At home, my fiance is about to graduate from college.  Stress is abundant, but I’m still going to do my best to keep up with the blog.

As far as ammo is concerned, the pattern continues and .45 ammo is still the most widely available.  Most of the places I checked have about 10 different options each.  The availability in local shops is still pretty bad but I’ve noticed that seems to be picking up again as well.  Hopefully that continues.

Also, sorry to anyone who has previously communicated with me at my Yahoo email address.  Or to anyone who’s page I was subscribed to using my yahoo address.  I’ve stopped using it almost completely after it was hacked a few weeks ago and because of that I’m sure I probably missed a few things.  My new email address is, so feel free to contact me there if you have any questions or comments.

What better way to start your Saturday morning than by ordering yourself some ammunition?  Its been a few days since my last pistol ammo update and since everyone has been showing their support I figured I could go ahead and post another.

For those of you who decided to stick with me after reading about my opinion of Duck Dynasty, I thank you.  Your reward is an overdue ammo update.  I’ve been trying to do this all weekend but as I mentioned over here, there was just no way I could do it.

Things are still looking up in the ammo department, so that’s a good sign.  Prices should eventually start coming back down in the future but I doubt it will be any time soon.  Hopefully I can get the rifle update out tomorrow but I can’t make any promises.  Just be sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss it when I do!

The majority of my viewers are still arriving here looking for ammo updates and information.  And according to the answers that I’ve received on my poll, ammo updates are still something my readers and subscribers want.  In order to provide more updates more often, I’m going to divide my updates into pistol ammo and rifle ammo.  Having a smaller variety of calibers will allow me to do them quicker and that means less work for me.

Hopefully this way I can give more specific information on each of the options as well.   The pistol updates will include .50AE, .45ACP, and 9mm.  The rifle updates will include .223, 5.56, 7.62×39, 7.62x54R, and 22lr.

So here’s the first update with the new format.  The rifle ammo update should be along tomorrow if life goes as planned.  Here’s what was available as of 4:00pm on March 12th, 2013.

.50AE is still really hard to find.  If anyone knows of a source that I haven’t been looking through, let me know so I can include it.  Also, with these updates being half what they used to be, I could include another caliber to this one.  Vote in the poll below or leave a comment to let me know what you think I should include.

I know its taken a little longer for this update, but just like I said in my last update, its only because is doing a better job than I can.  That and ammo is becoming a lot more available again which is a good thing for everyone.

Here’s what was available as of 8:00pm on March 7th, 2013.  If I’m not mistaken, its the most complete this list has ever been.  Very good sign in my opinion.

If you like the updates, please subscribe.  Motivates me to keep doing these things.  And if you find a deal I didn’t mention, my viewers and I would greatly appreciate it if you share it with us in the comments.  The gun community is a great one and I like when we all help each other; that’s the only reason I’m doing this in the first place . . .

Since my last update was almost a week ago, I thought it was about time I did another.  Been cutting back a little lately since 1) availability is improving online and 2) GunBot appears to do a much better job than I can.  But I promised to keep doing these and I will.  Especially since GunBot doesn’t search for all calibers at this point.  So without any further rambling, here we go.

Able Ammo has been added to my search sites this week and in the future if I remember.  This is what was available as of 7:15pm on February 28th, 2013.  Good luck and happy hunting!

Things are definitely looking up in terms of availability.  Maybe not in prices, but that’s almost to be expected right now.  One of the scariest things I saw on this list however was Wolf steel cased ammo going for $18/20.  Its like a nightmare come true.  Anyway, make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss future updates.  I know its not as helpful as it was last month, but its certainly easier to let me do the searching for you, don’t you think?
